A dashing young man steps into the crime scene. He solves the mystery and rescues the girl like any superhero would. His job well done, he steps straight into his sparkling red Ferrari and drives away into the sunset. Sounds so much like the movies? Well, this could be your life too. The only thing is that you need to opt for the profession of a real private detective.
The job of a real private detective may not fall on the conventional lines of a doctor, engineer and so on. But this job offers something that probably no other profession can. The thrill and excitement that exists in the life of a detective is something that you will not find in any other profession. No wonder people call the life of a real private detective – ‘buzzing’.
Like many others you too may want to don the hat of a detective and become the next Bond. But the big question is – how do you do that? Well, the process is not as complicated as it seems to be. The most important step in becoming a real life detective is procuring a license. Different states have different eligibility criterions to grant license. Take for instance; in New York applicants for a private investigator should either have three years of experience as an investigator or twenty years of experience in the field of law enforcement.
Though the criterions vary from one state to another, there are certain common grounds for entering into the profession. One of them is a clean background. There should not be any criminal charges against you and you should have a clean record. People who have any kind of convictions against them are not eligible for the profession.
Another basic criterion that you must meet if you are trying to enter into the profession of a real private investigator is experience. The tenure of experience required varies from one state to another. But what do you do in case you do not have the required experience? You can join an established agency or a private detective firm to gain the requisite experience.
Besides the basic needs of having a clean background and the requisite experience, you will also need to provide a background check up along with a few reliable references. Lastly, you will need to pay a fee to obtain the license of a real private detective. But don’t you worry, this fees is not too high so you will not have a problem paying the same.
Possessing relevant skills or qualifications pertaining to the job always helps getting into the profession. For instance if you hold a degree in criminal law or forensic science, investigative firms will be more than eager to hire you. Also, if you are well-versed will skills such as photography or have the requisite computer knowledge, your chances of making it into the profession are higher.
